I'm Michelle Johnson, a social justice activist who teaches individuals and organizations how to live a more mindful and inclusive life. I want to use my short time on this planet to contribute to the greater good. I do this through yoga classes, workshops, retreats, Skill In Action, consulting and more. After 20 years in North Carolina, I have recently come to call Portland, Oregon my home. I'm excited to meet all my new friends.
My dedication to teach and practice yoga comes from a desire to help myself and others understand, feel, know, and embody that we are enough as we are. We live in a world where we are told we are broken, damaged, and no good. We are conditioned to feel like we aren’t enough and that we are deficient in some way. I aim to empower people to move back into their breath and bodies and to shift from a place of believing that we aren’t enough to a place of empowerment.
Using meditation, pranayama, and movement, I teach a power flow/vinyasa flow style class to connect people to their bodies. Show up prepared to breathe, move, transform and build community.
I offer workshops in a range of areas, including but not limited to Social Justice Yoga, Loving Kindness Meditation, Yoga for Depression and Anxiety, Yoga and Breathwork for Survivors of Sexual Violence.
Skill in Action Yoga Teacher Trainings are designed for activists, allies, and agents of change. It offers a comprehensive approach to transformational social change work.
The next training is in September 2017 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
In Winter/Spring 2018, I will be leading a retreat with Africa Yoga Project. These retreats are designed to build community and your connection to the world around you by immersing yourself in meaningful service project.
